Filmed for a year in the battleground state of Michigan, this Ford Foundation JustFilms-funded feature documentary follows the outsider campaign of Abdul El-Sayed, a 33-year-old Egyptian-American doctor who sets out to become the first Muslim governor in U.S. history. Abdul initially imagines he will have to battle anti-Muslim hate groups, but his main opposition emerges from an unexpected source: his own party. Picking up on a story that has roiled Democratic politics nationwide since the 2016 presidential primary, the film is an eye-opening look at the workings of power and money in a system many believe is broken - but can be fixed.
